Setup

Setup — table

Mighty Basics Replay. This game is from the Friend's view: leading into your partner's void. Trump (giruda) is ♥, contract 15, and the declarer is P3. I hold the Mighty, so I am the Friend. I have no diamonds, and the declarer emptied spades and clubs in the exchange. Watch us take turns leading each other's voids to ruff, and notice how seating order kept the defenders from over-ruffing.

Trick 1

Trick 1 — table

I ruffed the declarer's ♦2 with ♥3. P2, behind me, had to follow diamonds and could not over-ruff. The declarer now knows my void.

Trick 2

Trick 2 — table

This time I led ♣4. P2 played ♣A, but the declarer ruffed with ♥2. Now we both know each other's voids. The declarer is void in clubs, and I am void in diamonds.

Trick 3

Trick 3 — table

The declarer led a diamond into my void, and I ruffed with ♥5 to bring in ♦10.

Trick 4

Trick 4 — table

I returned the favor with a lead into the declarer's void. This time I led an honor, ♣J, loading it onto a trick the declarer would ruff.

Trick 5

Trick 5 — table

The declarer led ♦Q. The defenders had to give up their last diamonds, ♦A and ♦J, and I ruffed with ♥9 to sweep 3 points.

Trick 6

Trick 6 — table

I led a club again. The declarer ruffed, but P4 behind could have over-ruffed with ♥J. A missed chance for the defenders.

Trick 7

Trick 7 — table

My trumps are all used up. Now the declarer drains trumps with the saved ♥A.

Trick 8

Trick 8 — table

On the declarer's ♥K, the defenders had to follow with their last trumps, ♥J and ♥Q. That is 4 points in one trick.

Trick 9

Trick 9 — table

The declarer led the Joker calling diamonds, and the defenders, void in diamonds, discarded other cards.

Trick 10

Trick 10 — table

On the last trick, the Mighty I saved to the end took it, revealing the Friend.

Result

Result — table

20:0, a run. We were never over-ruffed because the defender behind the ruffer still had to follow the led suit. Leading into your partner's void is safest when you know the void and the defender behind your partner still holds that suit.
